Written by Point of Pride | October 4, 2024 12:52:16 PM Z

Point of Pride is thrilled to announce that 117 recipients have been selected to receive gender-affirming hormone therapy support through the 2024 HRT Access Fund.

In partnership with PlumeFolxQueerMedQueerDocTrueU, and Spectrum: The Other Clinic, recipients will receive at least twelve months of comprehensive care, including telemedical visits with a trans-centered care team, lab work and monitoring four times per year (with Uber vouchers for transportation), prescription cost coverage, and any necessary medical letters for their transition.

This year, we have also partnered with the National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition (BTAC), which provided funding to support 49 Black recipients, furthering our shared mission to ensure BIPOC trans individuals have access to life-saving HRT.

Altogether, $163,600 in financial assistance has been awarded, and recipients will be eligible to apply for Renewal Awards to cover future healthcare expenses.

Statistics this cycle

Applicants

There were a total of 775 applicants this cycle.

  • 52% of applicants are youth under 24
  • 5% of applicants are adults over 45
  • 49% of applicants are people of color
  • 69% of applicants have dealt with homelessness/housing insecurity, either currently or in the past
  • 40% of applicants are living with a disability or chronic illness
  • 16% of applicants are the primary caregiver of another individual
  • 48% of applicants have dealt with discrimination from a healthcare provider, either currently or in the past
  • 55% of applicants have dealt with discrimination from an employer, either currently or in the past
  • 10% of applicants have experienced incarceration, either currently or in the past
  • 69% of applicants live in states considered high-risk for anti-trans legislation

Reviewing these applications and choosing recipients is an incredibly challenging process, as our organization has limited funding, and every applicant is truly deserving of the care they need.

Recipients

There were 117 recipients this cycle. In line with our guiding principle of equity, our grantmaking committee prioritized individuals living in states or facing circumstances where gender-affirming healthcare is restricted or under attack.

  • 58% of recipients are youth under 24
  • 1% of recipients are adults over 45
  • 54% of recipients are people of color
  • 76% of recipients have dealt with homelessness/housing insecurity, either currently or in the past
  • 58% of recipients are living with a disability or chronic illness
  • 22% of recipients are the primary caregiver of another individual
  • 58% of recipients have dealt with discrimination from a healthcare provider, either currently or in the past
  • 60% of recipients have dealt with discrimination from an employer, either currently or in the past
  • 8% of recipients have experienced incarceration, either currently or in the past
  • 76% of recipients live in states considered high-risk for anti-trans legislation

"We know that access to gender-affirming care is increasingly under threat, particularly in states where harmful anti-trans legislation targets our community. This cycle, 3 out of 4 of our recipients are directly confronting these barriers. We are committed to ensuring that those most affected by these restrictions still receive the life-saving care they deserve," says Tyler Rodriguez, Director of Programs.

"Access to gender-affirming hormone therapy is about more than just survival or combating dysphoria—it's about giving trans people the chance to truly thrive. When individuals are able to access the care they need, they’re empowered to live authentically, build confidence, and participate fully in their schools, workplaces, and communities. This is life-changing care that allows people to embrace their full potential," said Jeff Main, Executive Director and co-founder.
