Meet Rosalyn

Rosalyn

Rosalyn's story

Electrolysis Support Fund recipient

Rosalyn (she/her) is a 27-year-old trans woman seeking hair removal. Recently securing her first job, she is struggling to make space in her budget for her transition. Affording HRT is already a challenge, and transitioning publicly will be difficult due to the amount of dark facial hair she has.

Rosalyn is an artist, a gamer, and a disc golf enthusiast with dreams of becoming a clown someday. The dysphoria caused by her body hair is a significant barrier to living authentically. "I'm looking forward to being able to be more out. To get to really exemplify who I am no matter where I go," Rosalyn shares, expressing her excitement about the possibility of being free from this dysphoria.

Receiving hair removal services would allow Rosalyn to move forward in her transition with greater confidence, enabling her to truly exemplify who she is wherever she goes. This support is crucial for her well-being and self-expression, helping her to live her life more authentically and joyfully.

About Hair Removal: Femme Award

On average, it costs $2,300+ for Rosalyn's care.

What is it?

Point of Pride provides grants to trans femme people seeking hair removal on their face, neck, or an area of the body in preparation for bottom surgery.

What is life like for a person who needs this care?

For trans femme folks, particularly trans femmes of color, access to facial hair removal often equates to safety against anti-trans violence or discrimination. It's common for applicants to note issues with employment and public safety, particularly if their facial hair is dark or thick. Electrolysis and laser hair removal services are often deemed cosmetic and therefore not covered by health insurance plans.

What is the impact of this care on the recipient’s life?

Access to hair removal often leads to a more positive emotional well-being, increased confidence, increased safety when in public, and better opportunities at employment and more.
