These outdated documents leave Jordan vulnerable to being outed and discriminated against in professional, educational, and everyday settings.
Despite taking significant steps in their gender affirmation journey, including undergoing surgery funded entirely out of pocket, Jordan now faces the financial burden of maxed-out credit cards and mounting medical debt. As a student already struggling to afford school, Jordan's limited income makes saving for these essential updates impossible, putting them at risk of housing instability.
Having updated documents would be life-changing for Jordan, allowing them to apply for jobs and graduate school without fear of being misgendered or discriminated against. It would reduce the constant anxiety of presenting identification and give them the peace of mind to focus on their future.
