Everett's story

Annual Trans Surgery Fund recipient

Everett (they/them) is a resilient non-binary person seeking bottom surgery while navigating significant medical and financial challenges. "I’ve been unemployed or underemployed since 2020 due to my autoimmune condition, and my disability benefits barely cover my essential medical needs."

Despite the financial strain, Everett has meticulously planned for surgery and recovery. They have consulted multiple surgeons over the past 18 months, secured a pre- and post-op care team, and coordinated with their specialists to ensure their existing disabilities will be managed.“I have an incredible support system of family, friends, and medical providers who will help me before and after surgery. I’m eager to move forward, especially with the increasing threat of anti-trans legislation.”

Beyond their personal journey, Everett is deeply committed to supporting the trans community. As a licensed massage therapist, they specialize in scar massage and manual lymph drainage—skills they hope to return to as they adapt to using their body in new ways. They are also a passionate athlete and outdoor enthusiast, but dysphoria has prevented them from accessing the therapeutic benefits of swimming, an essential part of their spinal cord injury care. “This surgery will not only alleviate my dysphoria but also allow me to fully engage in activities that support my mental and physical health. It’s not just about affirmation—it’s about reclaiming my body and my life.”

What is it?

Vaginectomy refers to the surgical removal of the vagina, often performed in conjunction with hysterectomy or in preparation for other types of FtM bottom surgeries.

What is life like for a person who needs this care?

Before care, some trans people experience dysphoria or discomfort related to having a vaginal canal. This can impact their sense of gender alignment, intimacy, and overall well-being.

What is the impact of this care on the recipient’s life?

Many trans people who undergo vaginectomy report a greater sense of alignment with their gender identity. This can lead to increased confidence, improved mental health, and greater comfort in their bodies and relationships.
