Dahlia's story
Electrolysis Support Fund recipient
Dahlia (she/her) is a 23-year-old trans woman seeking electrolysis. She faces significant financial challenges due to the high cost of her medications and living expenses. In the past, Dahlia has also dealt with housing insecurity, having been almost evicted four times, and does not qualify for government assistance. She recently had breast augmentation but did not qualify for FMLA at her job, forcing her to fall three months behind on rent and play catch-up with all her bills.
She shaves every day, and as a result, she feels incomplete. Looking to the future, Dahlia is excited to be hair-free and to have that sense of completeness that has been missing: "I am excited to be able to walk around and look and feel like a woman, and to be able to just wake up in the morning and go without worrying about putting on makeup or if people can see my 5 o’clock shadow."
Dahlia is an active member of her community and a good friend, helping the homeless by feeding them and taking care of her grandfather. She also enjoys painting and pottery.
