Meet Ariesela
Ariesela's story
Electrolysis Support Fund recipient
Ariesela (she/her) is a 24-year-old trans woman embarking on the physiological, mental, and spiritual metamorphosis of medically transitioning. Up until recently moving in with chosen family, transitioning was only a dream due to an ongoing battle with housing instability and eventual homelessness. Through trust in the universe and a determined heart, she persevered through performing in drag shows (often just for tips) until a blessing came along in the form of her chosen mother, Sin Silva, who swept the hopeful showgirl off the streets.
An active member of her community and a trans humanitarian in the making, Ariesela now platforms other trans artists and new performers by producing show opportunities for trans and femme entertainers, moderating queer town halls, and working alongside several trans and women's organizations that support people in situations similar to what she faced.
"Her heart is full" is an understatement of how Ariesela feels about receiving this gender-affirming healthcare. Stable housing has allowed her to reclaim her life from square one after losing everything physically but finding herself in the process. Between the demands of a busy performance schedule, an active job hunt, funding HRT, and participating in mutual aid within her community, it seemed like progression in her transition was a fading reality.
"There are no words for the relief of waking up someday without the immediate rush of anxiety and crippling discomfort when I see the hair on my body," Ariesela shares. The confidence she'll feel showing off her body with lessened dysphoria and a healthier state, free from the cuts and bumps she was previously bullied for, is a life-changing prospect. Receiving this support brings her one step closer to living her life with the authenticity and confidence she deserves.

What is it?
Point of Pride provides grants to trans femme people seeking hair removal on their face, neck, or an area of the body in preparation for bottom surgery.
What is life like for a person who needs this care?
For trans femme folks, particularly trans femmes of color, access to facial hair removal often equates to safety against anti-trans violence or discrimination. It's common for applicants to note issues with employment and public safety, particularly if their facial hair is dark or thick. Electrolysis and laser hair removal services are often deemed cosmetic and therefore not covered by health insurance plans.
What is the impact of this care on the recipient’s life?
Access to hair removal often leads to a more positive emotional well-being, increased confidence, increased safety when in public, and better opportunities at employment and more.
