Meet Alex

Alex's story
Thrive Fund recipient
Alex (he/him) is a trans man navigating dysphoria while working to improve his circumstances. After losing his previous job due to health reasons, Alex struggled to secure employment, he now works full-time earning minimum wage. Despite his efforts, Alex has been unable to find higher-paying work. He lost his apartment and is currently living in camper with unlivable conditions that will only worsen with the changing weather.
Alex is seeking support to purchase a packer that meets his needs. This product would be life-changing for him. For Alex, having a realistic packer would relieve significant dysphoria in multiple areas in his life. It would also reduce his anxiety during daily activities, whether he’s at work or spending time with friends, by providing a sense of alignment with his identity.
Despite his challenges, Alex remains focused on alleviating his dysphoria so he can move through the world with less anxiety, depression, and fear. Access to this packer would be a vital step in helping him feel more confident, comfortable, and affirmed in his body every day.

What is it?
Packers and prosthetics are devices worn by trans men, trans masc, and non-binary people to provide the appearance of anatomy such as breasts and genitals for a sense of anatomical alignment.
What is life like for a person who needs this care?
Many trans folks experience gender dysphoria related to their bodies or clothing. Lack of access to a packer or prosthetic can intensify feelings of discomfort, especially in social or intimate situations.
How accessible is it for trans folks to receive this care?
Packers and prosthetics vary in cost, with high-quality options being expensive and often not covered by insurance. For individuals with limited income, even the more affordable options may be out of reach.
What is the impact of this care on the recipient’s life?
Using a packer or prosthetic can help alleviate dysphoria, boost confidence, and allow trans individuals to feel more aligned with their gender identity in both public and private settings.
