Adrian's story
Thrive Fund recipient
Adrian (he/him) is a 47-year-old disabled trans man seeking an effective chest binding solution. Living on less than $500 per month through state disability while working to secure SSI, Adrian has no extra funds for gender-affirming items. He’s tried lower-cost binders but hasn’t found an option that works with his frame and chest size. With surgery being a complicated, multi-step process due to his disabilities, binding remains the most accessible way to address his gender dysphoria. Misgendering and dysphoria have had a significant impact on his mental health, self-image, and ability to participate in daily activities.
Adrian is a writer, musician, zoologist, and avid plushie collector. He is passionate about using his special interests and knowledge in animals, mental health, and LGBTQ+ identities to educate and advocate whenever possible.
Receiving an effective binder will be life-changing for Adrian—giving him the ability to express himself authentically, alleviate the distress of dysphoria, and reduce misgendering. As he puts it, “After over 40 years of knowing my assigned gender didn’t fit, the discovery of my true self has given me a new life. I can’t wait to wear what I want, feel more at home in my body, and live as the man I truly am.”
