Point of Pride Awards $53,600 to 43 Recipients Through Inaugural Thrive Fund

January 8, 2025

Point of Pride is proud to announce the successful completion of the first funding cycle of the Thrive Fund, awarding $53,600 in financial support to 43 recipients. This pilot initiative was launched in June 2024 and designed to provide trans individuals with critical assistance for a variety of gender-affirming expenses not typically covered by other funding sources.

Recipients of the Thrive Fund are now able to access gender-affirming resources such as prosthetics, wigs, therapist letters required for HRT or surgery, professional nursing or caregiving support post-surgery, and at-home Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal devices. Additional services supported include vocal therapy or voice training, medical tattooing, and fertility preservation or reproductive health services.

“This program represents a new frontier for Point of Pride,” said Jeff Main, Executive Director and co-founder. “Through this fund, we’re addressing gaps in support that often go overlooked but are so critical in help trans folks not just survive, but thrive.”

Key statistics from this year’s recipients:

  • 2 in 3 recipients are living with a disability or chronic illness.
  • 1 in 4 recipients are young people under the age of 24.
  • 59% of recipients are people of color.
  • 87% of recipients have dealt with homelessness/housing insecurity, either currently or in the past.

The Thrive Fund was made possible through the generosity of Point of Pride’s donors, the dedication of Community Grantmaking Fellows, and the tireless work of volunteers and supporters.

“The Thrive Fund is about more than financial assistance—it’s about fostering resilience and celebrating the individuality of our community,” said Aydian Dowling, Chief Advancement Officer and co-founder. “To everyone who contributed to this program—whether through donations, time, or expertise—thank you for helping us make this life-changing impact possible.”

Looking ahead, Point of Pride is eager to expand the Thrive Fund in years to come. To learn more about the Thrive Fund, visit the program webpage.
