Point of Pride Awards $670,000 to 47 Recipients Through 2024 Annual Trans Surgery Fund

Point of Pride is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Annual Trans Surgery Fund, with 47 individuals receiving a total of $670,000 in financial assistance for their gender-affirming surgeries. This funding will fully cover the surgical expenses of each recipient, ensuring they can access the care they urgently need.

Key statistics from this year’s recipients:

  • 67% of recipients are people of color
  • 50% are living with a disability or chronic illness
  • 50% reside in high-risk states for anti-trans legislation
  • 75% have experienced housing insecurity
  • 34% are trans youth ages 18-24
  • 64% have faced discrimination from a healthcare provider
  • 62% have experienced workplace discrimination
  • 40% are primary caregivers for a child, elder, parent, or partner
  • 6% have experienced incarceration
  • 92% lack inclusive health insurance coverage

As of this announcement, 10 recipients have already scheduled their surgeries.

“Health equity is a critical concern for our community—particularly the most vulnerable and underserved among us,” said Tyler Rodriguez, Program Manager at Point of Pride. “Without this program, these 47 people simply would not have the resources or access to the gender-affirming care they need.”

Point of Pride remains committed to supporting transgender individuals through direct services and advocacy, ensuring access to life-saving and affirming care.

Point of Pride's mission is help trans youth and adults access necessary, life-saving health and wellness services. To date, Point of Pride has awarded $2,750,000 in financial aid and provided gender-affirming support to 22,000 people in all 50 states and around the world.
