Responding to the Biden Administration: The Truth About Gender-Affirming Care for Trans Youth
July 3, 2024
Yesterday, the Biden administration confirmed its position that gender-affirming surgery should be limited to adults.
Surgeries for trans youth are extremely rare and are usually considered on a case-by-case basis after years of comprehensive healthcare. Despite this, anti-trans groups spread misinformation, claiming these surgeries are common when. The administration’s stance is problematic because it lends credibility to a false narrative.
The truth is that healthcare for trans youth is based on decades of clinical research and is endorsed by every major medical association in the U.S. including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Psychological Association—representing a collective endorsement from over 1.3 million doctors.
We believe in supporting trans youth. We trust our families and our healthcare providers. Trans youth deserve access to all healthcare options. All of us—trans or cis—should have the autonomy to make informed medical decisions without political interference.
