Point of Pride Awards $163,600 to 117 Recipients Through 2024 HRT Access Fund

October 4, 2024

Point of Pride is excited to announce that $163,600 in financial assistance has been awarded to 117 recipients through the 2024 HRT Access Fund. These recipients will receive gender-affirming hormone therapy (HRT) support, including lab work, prescription drug coverage, and telemedical visits, at no cost to them.

In partnership with Plume, Folx, QueerMed, QueerDoc, TrueU, and Spectrum: The Other Clinic, recipients will receive at least 12 months of comprehensive care, with additional support provided to cover transportation and necessary medical letters.

“This year, we are proud to have partnered with the National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition (BTAC), which provided funding for 49 Black recipients, ensuring more BIPOC trans individuals have access to life-saving HRT,” said Aydian Dowling, Chief Advancement Officer and co-founder. “Thanks to our donors and supporters, we’re able to create a life-changing impact for so many.”

Key statistics from this year’s recipients:

  • 58% of recipients are youth under 24
  • 1% of recipients are adults over 45
  • 54% of recipients are people of color
  • 76% of recipients have dealt with homelessness/housing insecurity, either currently or in the past
  • 58% of recipients are living with a disability or chronic illness
  • 22% of recipients are the primary caregiver of another individual
  • 58% of recipients have dealt with discrimination from a healthcare provider, either currently or in the past
  • 60% of recipients have dealt with discrimination from an employer, either currently or in the past
  • 8% of recipients have experienced incarceration, either currently or in the past
  • 76% of recipients live in states considered high-risk for anti-trans legislation

“We know that access to gender-affirming care is increasingly under threat, particularly in states where harmful anti-trans legislation targets our community,” said Tyler Rodriguez, Director of Programs. “This cycle, 3 out of 4 recipients are confronting these barriers, and we are committed to ensuring they receive the care they deserve.”

“Access to gender-affirming hormone therapy is about more than survival—it’s about giving trans people the chance to truly thrive,” said Jeff Main, Executive Director and co-founder. “This care empowers individuals to live authentically, build confidence, and fully participate in their communities.”

Applications for the next cycle of the HRT Access Fund will open in summer 2025. To learn more or to apply, visit Point of Pride’s website.
