Point of Pride Awards $376,750 in Electrolysis Support Fund to 181 Recipients

Point of Pride is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Electrolysis Support Fund, with 181 individuals receiving a total of $376,750 in financial assistance for gender-affirming electrolysis and laser hair removal services. This support will provide life-changing access to permanent hair removal services that recipients otherwise could not afford.

Key statistics from this year’s recipients:

  • 96% of recipients are trans femme
  • 57% are people of color
  • 60% are living with a disability or chronic illness
  • 50% are living in high-risk states for anti-trans legislation
  • 75% have experienced housing insecurity
  • 24% are young adults (ages 18-24)
  • 12% are over the age of 45
  • 60% have experienced discrimination from a healthcare provider
  • 64% have faced discrimination from an employer
  • 12% have experienced incarceration

As of today, 48% of recipients have already utilized part of their grant awards to access critical, gender-affirming care.

“We’re thrilled to provide this vital support to those in need,” said Jeff Main, Executive Director of Point of Pride. “This program represents our continued commitment to ensuring that trans individuals have access to affirming care that is often out of reach due to financial barriers.”

Point of Pride's mission is help trans youth and adults access necessary, life-saving health and wellness services. To date, Point of Pride has awarded $2,750,000 in financial aid and provided gender-affirming support to 22,000 people in all 50 states and around the world.
