Point of Pride Awards $213,800 to 2023 Trans Surgery Fund Recipients

Point of Pride is proud to announce the recipients of the 2023 Annual Trans Surgery Fund, with a total of $213,800 awarded to cover the full cost of gender-affirming surgeries. Initially announced as $170,000, the total amount was increased thanks to the success of Mercury Stardust's TikTok-a-Thon, ensuring that recipients no longer need to dip into their savings for surgical expenses.
Key statistics from this year’s recipients:
- 5 recipients are youth under 24
- 3 recipients are over the age of 40
- 11 recipients are people of color
- Nearly all recipients (15) have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity
- 11 recipients have faced discrimination from a healthcare provider
- 11 recipients have faced discrimination from an employer
- 10 recipients are living with a disability or chronic illness
- Many recipients serve as primary caregivers for a child, elder, parent, or partner
“This funding allows recipients to receive the gender-affirming care they so urgently need, removing financial barriers that often stand in the way of essential healthcare,” said Jeff Main, Executive Director of Point of Pride.
