Point of Pride to Host First-Ever LGBTQ Space at Skid Row Carnival of Love
January 17, 2018
Point of Pride is proud to announce its participation in the Skid Row Carnival of Love, set to take place in Los Angeles on January 27, 2018. For the first time ever, the event will feature an LGBTQ+ support tent, hosted by Point of Pride, offering vital resources and social support to the city's homeless LGBTQ+ community.
The Skid Row Carnival of Love, founded by Justin Baldoni in 2015, has grown into a powerful annual initiative designed to foster connection and provide critical services to the often overlooked homeless population of Skid Row. The event brings together healthcare, career opportunities, education, legal and housing services, haircuts, feet washing, games, and donations, creating a space of love and hope for thousands.
“We are honored to be part of such an incredible event that not only addresses homelessness but creates a space of dignity, respect, and support for all,” said Aydian Dowling, Point of Pride Board President and co-founder. “Our LGBTQ support tent will provide attendees with a safe and inclusive space where they can connect, find community, and receive much-needed resources.”
In addition to offering social support, Point of Pride will distribute free chest binders, tucking undergarments, and breast form prosthetics to transgender individuals who otherwise cannot afford or access them. The event will also feature a partnership with the Los Angeles LGBT Center, which will provide free sex education to attendees.
“We believe in the power of community and the transformative impact of events like the Skid Row Carnival of Love,” Dowling added. “Our goal is to create a welcoming space where every individual feels seen, valued, and supported.”
Point of Pride's mission is help trans youth and adults access necessary, life-saving health and wellness services. To date, Point of Pride has awarded $2,750,000 in financial aid and provided gender-affirming support to 22,000 people in all 50 states and around the world.
