Point of Pride Launches Electrolysis Support Program for Trans Femme Individuals
January 25, 2018
Point of Pride is excited to announce the launch of its new Electrolysis Support Program, designed to connect trans femme individuals with affirming electrologists for free or heavily-discounted permanent hair removal services. This program addresses a critical need in the transgender community, as many insurance companies do not cover these services, despite their necessity for many trans people.
The Electrolysis Support Program represents a groundbreaking solution designed by and for trans femmes. “This is the first program of its kind, and it’s an innovative solution created by our community for our community,” said Laila Ireland, Board member of Point of Pride. “It’s about more than just hair removal—it’s about empowering trans femmes to live safely and authentically in a world that doesn’t always support them.”
“For trans femme individuals, hair removal is often not just cosmetic—it can be a vital part of the transition process, helping with passing in public or meeting surgical requirements,” said Aydian Dowling, Board President and co-founder of Point of Pride. “We knew we had to minimize the financial burden for those who need these services, and this program allows us to support some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Electrolysis can be an expensive and lengthy process, making it inaccessible to many. By partnering with affirming electrologists, Point of Pride is committed to reducing this barrier and ensuring trans femme individuals can access the care they need.
