About the program
Point of Pride has established the COVID-19 Emergency Fund to offset the unexpected costs and hardships that have impacted our trans community.
We recognize this current situation has created unanticipated and extraordinary circumstances for the most vulnerable members of our community. This fund works to connect small grants to recipients who have lost their income and lack the financial means to cover short-term expenses related to their health and well-being.
Examples of how these grant funds may be used:
- hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or other prescription refills
- therapy or mental health services
- medical supplies
Because of our extremely limited resources, most recipients will receive between $50 and $75.
We have very few requirements for applicants in an effort to be as inclusive as possible.
- You identify as transgender (FTM, MTF, non-binary, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, and all other non-cis identities).
- You live in the United States.
- You were laid off, unemployed, furloughed, or lost your primary source of income on or after March 1, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- You have financial hardship that makes affording your short-term expenses extremely challenging or impossible. (In your application, please complete the budget section to the best of your ability.)
- If seeking assistance towards hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or another prescription medication, you must already be taking the medicine and have a valid prescription refill.

Do I need to be trans to apply?
Yes. As with our other programs, you must identify as transgender (FTM, MTF, non-binary, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, and all other non-cis identities).
I'm under the age of 18, but I have my parent/guardian's consent. Can I apply?
We are so excited to hear that more parents and guardians are interested in supporting those under the age of 18 in pursuing affirming medical care. Unfortunately, due to current legislation, Plume is unable to provide care to minors even with parent or guardian authorization. We are continuing to monitor the situation and look forward to the day when we can allow additional applicants to our Access Fund.
I need help with groceries, rent, or other necessities.
Point of Pride was founded to try to help members of our community to better access affirming care. In light of COVID-19, we have expanded our programs to include HRT and mental health services as we are able to.
While we recognize the urgency of the situation for those needing to pay rent and buy food, this fund was created specifically to support access to health-related expenses. We have compiled additional resources here.
I need more than $75 for my healthcare needs.
We completely understand – we wish we were able to provide more, especially in light of how vulnerable our community is. The difficult reality is that we simply do not have the funds to support all applicants financially in the ways that they deserve. We recognize this microgrant might not fully cover your short-term healthcare expenses.
We recommend you explore other mutual aid programs, and reach out to your local LGBTQ centers and organizations (if possible!) to learn of other financial support programs available to you. We have compiled additional resources here.
Do I need to have a PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo account?
Yes, we require you to have a PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo account.
At this time, we are unable to support Zelle or any other online payment platforms.

Can you mail me cash or a check?
Unfortunately, no. We require you to have a PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo account.
I have applied. How do I know my application was received?
Once you submit the form, you will see a success message, and receive an emailed copy of all of your responses. If you do NOT receive this emailed copy, please check your spam folder and the quota limit on your inbox to make sure it hasn’t been filtered or bounced back.
If the email is still not there, then you may have entered your email address incorrectly on the form. Please submit your application again and double-check that your email and other contact information is correct.
I have applied. When will I know if I will receive a microgrant?
Applications are reviewed on a rolling, first-come, first-serve basis. You will receive an email update from our team within 15 days of your application. (If you do not receive an email from Point of Pride within 15 days, please check your spam folder and the quota limit on your inbox to make sure it hasn’t been filtered or bounced back.) From all of us at Point of Pride, we are deeply appreciative of your patience.
If awarded funding, when will I receive a microgrant?
Payments to recipients are disbursed on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.
If you receive an email from us that your application was approved, the money will process to your account on the next payment date.
Sometimes payment processors have a delay, so it may take a few extra days for the money to show up in your account. Please wait an extra 3-4 business days before reaching out to us if your microgrant is still not received. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
How many times can I apply?
Since launching the COVID-19 Relief Fund, we have had at least twice as many applicants as we have the resources to support. We also recognize, however, that financial situations will change and evolve over time.
Therefore, you are welcome to apply as many times as you like, but we require that you wait 60 days in between your applications.
First, you’ll submit an application. Once it has been reviewed, you’ll receive an email with us regarding next steps. The email will list the date of your original application, as well as the date 60 days later, so you know when you are eligible to re-apply.
Duplicate applications received before the 60 day period is up will not be reviewed.
I live outside the US. Can I apply?
Unfortunately, no. We are not accepting international applicants at this time.
Since launching the COVID-19 Relief Fund, we have had at least twice as many applicants as we have the resources to support. Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to limit our recipients to the US only.
In the future, we hope to expand to applicants outside the US, so please stay connected for updates.

- For your own security and privacy, please do not send us banking information. Point of Pride will never ask you for your bank account number, bank routing number, social security number, etc. We will only need you to provide your PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo handle/username.
