Point of Pride Reflects on 2018 LGBTQ History Month
Point of Pride celebrated LGBTQ History Month by honoring the trailblazers who paved the way for our community to live more authentically.
October is LGBTQ History Month, and this year, our Youth Interns have combed through time to commemorate 31 transgender icons, activists, and trailblazers. We hope you find their stories as interesting and inspiring as we did. Thanks to everyone who liked, shared, or shared your thoughts on the people who have influenced you.
In case you missed it, you can view the entire month of photos and bios via Facebook. Then, be sure to stay connected with Point of Pride by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
As LGBTQ history month draws to a close, we’d like to take a moment to reflect back on our history as a community: from closeted pasts and the first bricks thrown at Stonewall to the court decisions that have altered our courses permanently.
With the political climate in both the US and abroad so strained right now, it’s important to remember that many of these people likely never thought of themselves as trailblazers of the LGBTQ community, but rather as simple folks living their truths and making the decisions they felt they needed to in order to survive and thrive. By living your truth, you are making the LGBTQ history today that we’ll honor tomorrow. You are important, valid and a part of our history – and we here at Point of Pride can’t wait to see what you make your legacy.
