The fundraiser kicked off with a campaign that raised $400. Then, through a heartfelt and engaging Instagram Live event, Evvie brought in an additional $2,500—all going directly to help trans people get the care they need and deserve.
For Evvie, this effort was deeply personal.
“I got top surgery in February 2024. It was a decision that I came to slowly at first and then suddenly it hit a point where I was desperate for it and hated every picture with my full pre-op chest. From the minute I got out of surgery, even with all my bandages and compression, I was thrilled with the way I looked in the mirror. I love my chest, my body, and myself more now than I ever have in my life.”
But Evvie also knows that their experience isn’t the norm. Access to care is often determined by geography, finances, and systemic barriers.
“I am acutely aware that I was able to do this because I have great insurance through my workplace and live in Boston where access to gender-affirming care is relatively easy," shares Evvie. "My entire procedure cost me $500 out of pocket—I know that I am extremely fortunate for that.”
“I want every single trans and genderqueer person to get the care they need and live the life they deserve. I am so grateful that Point of Pride exists to help get trans people what we need and it is my honor to support this work however I can.”
There was a moment of hesitation, Evvie admits, especially given the political climate following the election. Would folks still show up? Would others be afraid to get involved?
“I was a little worried if other Survivor players would be enthusiastic about the fundraiser event or if they would be afraid to join. I have been so happily surprised at how many former players wanted to be a part of this.”
In the end, the response was overwhelming—in the best way. “The outpouring of support and eagerness to join have meant the world to me and to many Survivor fans.”
This wasn’t the first time Evvie’s voice resonated with the LGBTQ+ community. Their exit from Survivor was marked by a now-iconic message: “To any queer kids out there—be yourself, you’re amazing, love yourself."
"I want all of us to feel our worth and our value and to know that we are not alone," Evvie says. "I hope that this event can be one little reminder of that and bring a little joy to our community right now.”
We’re beyond grateful to Evvie for turning their story into solidarity, and their love into action. Their fundraiser will directly impact the lives of trans folks in need—and remind us all what community care can look like.
