International Volunteer Day, coming up on December 5, is a global celebration of giving back. This year, we invite you to join a powerful, simple act of kindness that can be done from anywhere: writing letters of affirmation to those who need it most.
Whether with individually, with friends and loved loved ones, or as part of a GSA or corporate ERG, letter-writing is a meaningful way to connect with others and make a difference.
A heartfelt letter can serve as a beacon of hope and connection, especially for those individuals who might feel isolated. You’ll uplift the spirits of trans youth, adults, and elders, reminding them that they are seen, valued, and loved.
To volunteer, all you need are a space and some paper and pens. The rest is up to you!
Point of Pride: Write notes of support to trans youth and adults. These letters let them know they’re not alone. For trans and gender diverse people living in areas of the world where they do not feel safe or affirmed, these letters can make all the difference.
Love for Our Elders: Browse through profiles of seniors and write a longer, personalized letter to someone to bring them comfort and joy. Love for Our Elders is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential affirmation and support to elders who might feel forgotten or isolated, much like Point of Pride’s mission to uplift the trans community.
Both Point of Pride and Love for Our Elders strive to bring light and joy to those who need it most through the power of human connection. We recommend you consider making cards for both our orgs at the same time!
Don’t just take our word for it—hear from some of the people who’ve received these notes of love and support:
—Grape, 17, Point of Pride card recipient
"I never expected to receive such a heartfelt card in my support package. I’m not out at school, and only a few close friends know the real me, so receiving this kind note of encouragement and support truly brightened my day. Thank you, kind stranger!"
—Mason, Point of Pride card recipient
—Mary from Virginia, Love for Our Elders recipient
"She had such a fun time sharing stories and memories from her past based off of the location of the letters or a memory that came up from the letters. Thank you all so much for helping our sweet Granny with her transition to her new nursing home."
—Rebekah from Mississippi, Love for Our Elders recipient

Thank you in advance for commemorating International Volunteer Day by spreading love, one letter at a time.
